Friendship
“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.”
John 15:13
Although the world hates those who belong to Jesus, He has called us to love our enemies. We are commanded to love and to serve those who, at the very least, do not love us in return or would even wish us harm. But, as we strive to reach the world, to bring light into darkness, we must never forget one another… we must never lose sight of our friends.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35
Jesus tells us that the world will know us by our love for one another. That is our fruit. He is the vine and we are the branches. But, in ministry and in reaching into the dark places of this world we can overlook our true friends.
Learn to acknowledge those in your life who are your true friends. Those friends who, no matter what, will be there for you. We sometimes feel this need to impress those who we really want to like us while overlooking or side stepping those who would go to war with us. Not just with us but go to war for us. Those who don’t need to be impressed. I am guilty of this so often; taking advantage of those who are always there for me. We over look those friendships that have been forged in fire and are held together in the power of Jesus’ name. Stop over looking. Stop forgetting. Call, text, email, or write a letter. Whatever you have to do… reach out and tell a friend, a true friend, that you love them. Give thanks to the Father for those friends He has given you!
Jesus left His place in heaven, came into this cursed and dark world, lived a sinless life, and was the spotless lamb that was slain so that all of those who call upon His name would be saved. After three days He rose from the dead and is now back in His rightful place at the right hand of the Father. Christ proved His love for us. When it comes to those you call friends… how far will YOU go?
All power and glory and honor and praise to Him who sits on the throne. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
