St John UMC Assessment Questions

A significant part of this Assessment Study is understanding the heart of the St. John Congregation. It is, therefore, of vital importance that each member of the St. John Congregation take some time to prayerfully answer the following questions.

1. Describe the level of overall concern across the congregation. For example, is the discontent across the congregation or centered in a particular small group, or individuals, or Sunday School class?

2. Are there issues other than human sexuality that are the source of your concern? If so, please describe.

3. Is the congregation open to receiving assistance to address your concerns? Describe assistance that you believe would be helpful.

4. Describe the effect of the changes made at the 2024 General Conference related to human sexuality on the ministries of your congregation.

5. Do you believe it is untenable to continue as a United Methodist Church? If so, please describe why you believe this to be the case.

If the St. John Kingdom Community were to come together and compose our “2-Minute God Story,” what would it be? Please answer the following questions to help us compose our story:

1. How has St. John impacted your life and relationship with Jesus, perhaps through things like: relationships, outreach ministries, internal ministries (Youth, Kids, etc.), Bible studies, small groups (including Sunday School), worship, etc.?

2. How has St. John impacted our community through relationships, ministries, outreach, etc.?

3. As a member of the St. John Congregation, tell about a time when you were proud of your Church.

4. What words describe how others outside the church view St. John’s ministries and role in our HWY 58 & Beyond Community.

5. What words do those within our St. John Congregation use to describe our Church and its ministries?
